Below we will share the interview with Major General (Retired) of the Peruvian Air Force, Carlos Caballero León (CEO of CP Consult) who tells us about his professional career and his company, following the ideas of technology and airport management; the interview was conducted by Angel Lovera Romero in the Podcast of BCDA Aeronautical Solutions.

Where do you come from and what did you study?

I am a native of Lima-Peru, I have made a career of almost forty years in the Air Force, I entered there very young, at 16 years old, in 1980, and my career ended in December 2018 is all a life I have done in the Peruvian Force Air. As it happens in other countries, in Peru you can do a specialty within the Air Force, a career inside another career, in my case I studied Electronic Engineering, let’s say that my field has always been developed in the area of technology, in addition to aircraft electronics, as it grew in the world of Air Force the horizons were broadened and I also entered in the field of the Aeronautics Engineering and Systems Engineering, generally in the area of communications and I finished my career in the Air Force as Head of the Peruvian Space Agency (CONIDA).

Can you tell us more about your Company CP Consult?

The fruit of the path of forty years of knowledge and experiences, for my engineer profession, I have had jobs and studies out of Peru, I have been in the United States, Italy, France, Belarus, then that marks the career because one ends up with a lot of knowledge but also with a lot of contacts; when one finishes one’s career one feels that “they’ve cut off the wings”, and at 55 one feels that one has the energy to continue, so one of the ways to make this transition between active military life to civilian life was to propose to me “not to retire” in the sense of the word, to leave the military activity to “rest” at home, but to become a company person that puts at the service of those interested the skills that I have and that many people in Peru also have and that it is necessary to connect them to the world market; there are many technology companies in the world that have interests in Peru, for example, some company that has a contract in Peru to repair an aircraft but that execution can take several months, then the companies are forced to look for less expensive but equally efficient alternatives, there is where I enter with my project management that assembles special work teams that require very specific profiles.

What do you think are the biggest challenges in the airport system because of the COVI-19 situation?

Evidently, this pandemic has come to shake the world, it is a super complex issue, maybe we do not have still a clear awareness of what it is coming because we are in a grey zone, of fog, the aeronautical system is very much hit at the global level, and the curve that was coming in constant worth has had a huge drop, but I have faith that this is going to recover, but the time it is going to take to recover and the costs of this recovery, how many people are going to be affected and how many companies, I believe that no one is in a position to calculate this at the moment.
