We are all exposed to a lot of criticism, whatever we do, there will always be someone giving an opinion about it, whether we keep a low profile in society or we are a public figure, nobody is exempt from being continuously subjected to criticism and insults that can affect us. So, to withstand these offenses, the first thing you need to do is to work on yourself because you cannot change the opinion of others, but you can prepare yourself to learn how to deal with it. That is why, in this article, you will find tips to face negative criticism in a better way and become immune to them.

1. Do not accept offenses

When someone criticizes us, we have two options: to accept the negative charge they transmit to us with those words or reject them and not make them belong to us. The difficulty of achieving this is that if you have fragile self-confidence and self-control, it is easy for a person to collapse before an insult, so you have to learn to strengthen the perception of yourself as an individual and know your real value.

2. Eliminate the offender – offended relationship

A person who disagrees with the perception of another one regarding his tastes, lifestyle, actions, among others, may not offend another just for considering that is not right, so we should not take those comments as personal and feel that we are being disrespected, everyone owns their opinion and their beliefs; we must just discern between the comments that come to our ears and do not allow them to break the basis where we are.

3. Understand that not everything is an attack

The fact of not allowing comments to affect us does not mean that we have to let them trample on us, only that many times what we can consider as an attack is not, so we should not defend ourselves; when criticisms affect us, we develop a defensive attitude about not wanting to give the reason to the other. Most times, it can be a “realistic” comment, and by not wanting to accept the truth, we poison our mind and go into attack mode, so knowing how to differentiate this kind of criticism is essential for personal growth.

4. Personal knowing as a starting point

When we have doubts about ourselves, negative words resound with more force; to become immune to criticism, first, each person must know and accept their limitations, flaws, as it is likely that outsiders want to take advantage of them to hurt us and make us feel bad, so it is necessary to learn to heal inner wounds, strengthen self-esteem and understand that we are not perfect.

5. Identifying one’s own wounds

Most of the time, it is oneself who has an emotional wound and feels pain, and other people, even without knowing it, take that sensible point and cause harm without wanting to be intentional. So, if some situations or emotions affect us and hurt us, we must avoid reactive attitudes and make peace with our emotions; so we must reconcile with ourselves so that we receive the word of third parties under the true context and with no bias.
