Because of the pandemic, the life to which we were used has taken a turn, changing from simple things like walks around the neighborhood to the traditional work scheme and this also includes our possibilities for business or leisure travel. Brian Chesky, CEO, and co-founder of Airbnb has spoken out about the future of tourism, and in this article, we will know his opinion about the changes that this industry faces.

 What is Airbnb?

Airbnb is a system that allows publishing, advertise and book accommodations more economically than traditional hotels in over 190 countries around the world whose lodging options do not have to be conventional but range from rooms to Geo Domes and also the tenant can live in the place to rent. Airbnb has become one of the most successful examples of a community market, where thanks to the internet and smartphones it has achieved a great impact within the collaborative economy.

Everything develops, even tourism

The way of doing tourism, as everything else has also grown; currently, big cities have been displaced by small and intimate towns where you can enjoy the closeness and tranquility, making this a challenge not only for the hotel industry but also for aviation, which Brian Chesky refers to as diversification of destinations.

Change is inevitable

Chesky knows that the way people live and work has changed, and this is probably forever, so the way people travel will not be the same. Now tendency reflects travels with a purpose, with meaning; where you can share with family and friends; no mass travels with endless queues or buses full of people; in Chesky’s terms, “I do not think people will continue to choose the same 20 or 30 cities that have been traditionally the most visited, this is one of the biggest changes. People now discover that can travel to other places, close to home, by car, and many places that they visited this year of the pandemic there were no big cities”, he said.

The pandemic as a determiner

According to surveys, there is a big tendency to the diversification of destinations, showing that what people want is to connect and escape from the anti-natural isolating caused by the pandemic, and also states that annual vacations or business trips are already an outdated concept, so the way of living and travel has become a complementary and flexible activity because more and more people can work from home or any other place, causing a great transformation to combine these two activities, so Chesky says, “they will redefine from the business trips to leisure travel and mainly mix travel of work and leisure.”

Seeing the world from another perspective

The idea of life as it was until 2019 can’t exist, but to be part of the evolution, adjust, make necessary changes, and do not be afraid to move forward, since the world as it was known is behind us; alternative accommodation and living like a local is in vogue, where you feel you belong regardless of the place you visit is famous; and this is where the hotel and transportation industry facilitate the user experience; that people feel at ease and not like an anonymous.
