Just as people are born with the gift of being a “person of reference”, we can also meet leaders who were not born with this gift, but did chose to work and develop the main skills to become people of reference, as we explained in the 21 irrefutable laws of leadership by John Maxwell (part one). Next, we will share the second part of the keys to developing the necessary skills to be a great leader.

Law of the inner circle

Most of the success we will have as leaders will be thanks to our work team, which is why it is advisable that our team won’t be full of negative people; we must fill our circle with people who contribute and be positive, this way we will avoid the results of our work to be mediocre.

Law of the surrender of power

A great leader is able to delegate tasks to others, and will not need to be involved in the delegate`s work. For this to work, there must be trust so that the comments do not create prejudice or a bad atmosphere as leaders in delivering it do so with authority.

Law of reproduction

Great leaders have had mentors who have passed on knowledge to them, and a leader has the characteristic of humility to learn from better leaders and are able to create other leaders because they understand that the more leaders the company has, the greater the potential of the workgroup.

Law of conviction

Our success depends on whether or not we are able to take people where we want them to; people first look for a leader to guide them and then pay attention to the project’s mission, for this reason, it is advisable to develop ourselves as leaders first and then the result will be that people join our project.

Law of victory

Leaders always think big, they keep their vision up, they will always look for their team to be the winner, and they always find a way for them to win because they don’t have any use for anything but winning; the first thing a leader sets are the goals and later find the means to achieve them.

Law of the moment of inertia

A person who does not like to move will never become a leader; a great leader has an action that brings as consequences that all the people who make up the team start moving to achieve the objectives and, in this way any problem can be overcome.

Law of priorities

The leader does not need to work uncontrollably, first, he identifies the activities that bring him closer to the goal and ensures that he does them first than the others; they invest eighty percent of the time, money, and resources in twenty percent of the activities, people and disciplines that will bring him to the goal.

Law of sacrifice

Sacrifice means that we must give up something good in the short term, in order to achieve something better in the long term, and leaders understand that they must sacrifice in order to prosper; many people want to develop the skills of leadership but are not able to make the sacrifices, and to be a great leader requires regularity and constant intelligent work.

Law of opportunity

An important key is to take advantage of the opportunities, and for this to happen it is important to be prepared because all people can be presented with opportunities, but only people who are prepared will be able to identify that this is an opportunity and take advantage of it.

Law of explosive growth

If our objective is to multiply the growth of our organization, the first we must do is develop leaders; if we have more leaders than followers, everything will grow exponentially, and the results we will have as an organization will be to reach the ideal situation since everything will gain speed.

Legacy law

People will be judged and remembered according to the leadership they had over the years, the value of a leader will be reflected in succession; we must keep in mind that people determine the potential of the organization, relationships determine morale, vision determine the direction and leadership determines success.

In any area to which we dedicate ourselves, it is important that we develop the character of a leader and always keep in mind that we must anticipate the facts since leaders do not expect things to happen. It is our decision whether we want to become great leaders and be reference people.
