Arturo Elias Ayub is a Mexican entrepreneur who from an early age demonstrated his abilities for businesses; currently, he participates in the television program Shark Tank México, hi is General Director of the TELMEX Company, Director of América Móvil, Director of Uno Tv and one of the shareholders of the Credicorp Perú Group, below we will learn about his start in the business world, what has been the business trajectory and details about the projects that he has had in life.
The world of business
When Elias Ayub was only seven years old he decided to start in the sales world, he bought school supplies such as pencils, notebooks, and erasers in bulk, and then took them to his school and sold them to other children; the school material shop was located next to Elias Ayub’s father clothing’s business, on the main post office street in the historical center of Mexico, a place that he sees today as his best university since it was there where he gained more experience in the world of sales.
Profession
Although like many young people at some point he hated school, avoiding attending classes or running away from them, in time he came to his senses and finished his high school studies, continuing on to higher education where he finally studied business administration at Anahuac University. At the age of twenty-nine, he married Johanna Slim, daughter of Carlos Slim, the richest man in Mexico according to Forbes magazine.
In 1996 Ayub began to work as an advisor for TELMEX, his father-in-law‘s company; since then, being so close to Engineer Slim he has taken the opportunity to learn from him, because among the anecdotes that have marked his life, the idea of recharging prepaid cell phones belonged to Carlos Slim and since then, this way has been applied throughout the world. Among the things he admires about Carlos Slim is the ease of seeing opportunities in crisis, he also always finds the passions of each Executive and guides them.
Projects
Among the contributions of Arturo in the company TELMEX, we find that one of the projects was to bring the internet to Mexico which is currently known as Infinitum; he also worked together with engineer Slim in the sale of computers in Mexico, but since these had a high cost that people could not pay and the sales were not what they expected, they decided to start selling them for fees that were being charged on the same receipt from TELMEX, carrying out this plan became the Company with the highest sales of computers in Mexico.
Although his business trajectory has been very successful, not all businesses have gone well, as he rejected a large business without knowing it; A friend of Ayub told him about a Project of an application which was very attractive but to be part of the business he had to invest 10% which was equivalent to 100 million dollars, at that time Ayub did not agree since he did not know if the application would be successful, a decision that he currently regrets since he was left out of a business that generates three thousand seven hundred million dollars according to Forbes magazine, where the ten percent that would correspond to Elias Ayub would be three hundred and seventy million dollars, the application that he was starting at that time is called Snapchat.
