How many times have you not wanted to have a specific talent to be able to materialize a dream or a project? It is incredible how many people want to have the talent of another, usually a public person, in order to succeed; But what if talent was not the only thing necessary to achieve it? This is the main premise of the book “Talent is Never Enough” by John C. Maxwell. In it, the author describes thirteen areas that can help you enhance your talent, nurture it and thus shine with your own light and achieve your goals, and this article summarizes these areas, grouped into four main pillars:
Momentum
This first pillar can be seen as the moment when we extend the string of a bow backward just before releasing the arrow towards the target, the objective. This impulse contains four important aspects: the conviction that you can achieve that result you want, the passion you have for the goal you have set for yourself, the initiative to take the necessary steps that will lead you in the right direction, and the concentration, necessary to Just pay attention to what will help you achieve your goal.
The discipline
You can have the talent to shoot arrows with your bow, but if you do not have discipline, chances are that they will not consistently hit the target. Therefore, this second pillar encompasses preparation, where all the principles and rules necessary to perform a job well are learned; practice, because in this way you will turn a habit into talent and you will know the points that you have to reinforce and improve so that you can do an activity in a more natural way; perseverance goes hand in hand with practice and includes the fact of not giving up in the face of adversity, it implies understanding, analyzing and overcoming them with practice; and finally, the courage that is what leads you to overcome your fears and take risks that bring you closer to the goal.
Humility
Being the best archer in the world makes you just that, the best archer in the world; But that doesn’t necessarily make you a better person. In this pillar, you can include those areas that must be reinforced to be a better person, because definitely to reach our goal we must interact with others for this purpose. Therefore, the areas that can be described in this pillar are the ability to always be learning, because a winner always recognizes that he must learn more, despite being considered an expert by others; character, which implies not being carried away by believing the best, you have to have integrity, respect for others and high values that allow you to accompany your talent with the gift of people; interpersonal relationships, because the objectives cannot be achieved by one alone, the human being is a social animal, therefore, we must take care of the people with whom we surround ourselves because they are a resource that can help us to enhance our talent and learn from their talents; finally, responsibility, which is to grab the bull by the horns and accept the consequences of our actions, be they good or bad.
Team work
This last pillar is self-explanatory and only encompasses that, teamwork. The best goalkeeper in the world did not get there just because of his talent or because of developing the other three pillars that were previously analyzed; he achieved it because behind him there is a whole group of people who helped him and supported him in his preparation: a coach, some teammates shooting, a nutritionist, a physiotherapist, etc. It should be noted that the talented person may not be the best of the work team, but at least he makes sure that those around him are the best at what they do and that is also teamwork. With all this you can see that everyone has the possibility of achieving success, it is not only the talent that leads you to achieve it. So you have to put the excuses aside and work on these points to achieve that dream that you want so much.
